Pyramids of Giza, Egypt

The Giza Pyramids are by far the most well known and iconic pyramids in the world. The odds are, if the word “pyramid” is brought up, these pyramids will spring to mind first. Located in close vicinity to Cairo and the Nile River, there are three primary pyramids. The first and largest is the Great Pyramid, officially named Pyramid of Khufu. In the pic at right it is furthest to the left. Look carefully, and see that it is not 4-sided but 8-sided. The second pyramid, or the Pyramid of Khafre, is in the center. At its top are the remaining smooth casing stones. Each of the three were originally covered in such casing stones. The third and smallest of the primary pyramids of the site is the Pyramid of Menkaure, positioned to the right in the photo.
